Vertigo Abbey Road Recordings has released a soundtrack album for the romantic drama The History of Sound. The album features the film’s original score composed by Oliver Coates (Aftersun, Pillion, Mary & George, 100 Nights of Hero, Occupied City, The Stranger, Foe, Significant Other). Also included are the songs from the movie written by Sam Amidon, produced by Coates and performed by cast members Paul Mescal, Josh O’Connor & Briana Middleton, as well as Amidon himself. The History of Sound is directed by Oliver Hermanus and also stars Chris Cooper, Molly Price, Peter Mark Kendall, Raphael Sbarge, Emma Canning and Hadley Robinson. The movie revolves around two young music students attending the Boston Conservatory in 1917 who bond over their shared love of folk music. The drama, which premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, was released in select U.S. theaters last September and is now available to stream on MUBI and to purchase on Blu-ray and DVD.
