Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the movie musical Wicked: For Good directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Marissa Bode, Ethan Slate and Bowen Yang. The film’s original score is composed by John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon, The Bourne Identity, Shrek, Happy Feet, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Don’t Worry Darling, X-Men: The Last Stand) and Stephen Schwartz (The Prince of Egypt, Pocahontas, Pippin). Republic Records & Verve Label Group have released a soundtrack album featuring the Schwartz-penned songs (including two new original tracks) from the movie today (click here for the full album details) and will release a separate album featuring Powell’s & Schwartz’s score on December 5 (click here for the album details and to learn more about the Universal Pictures release).
Also opening wide is the comedy drama Rental Family co-written and directed by Hikari and starring Brendan Fraser, Takehiro Hira, Akira Emoto, Mari Yamamoto and Shannon Mahina Gorman. Sigur Rós lead singer Jónsi (We Bought a Zoo, Aloha, Without Remorse) and Alex Somers (Captain Fantastic, Nickel Boys, Honey Boy, Causeway, Holland, Together, Together, Dawson City: Frozen Time) have composed the film’s original music. Also opening nationwide is the Finnish action sequel Sisu: Road to Revenge (Sisu 2) written and directed by Jalmari Helander and starring Jorma Tommila, Richard Brake and Stephen Lang. The film’s original music is composed by Juri Seppä (Big Game, Rare Exports) and Tuomas Wäinölä (Class Reunion 3, Nymphs) who previously scored the first Sisu installment. Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score today.
