Composer Volker Bertelmann (Lion, Hotel Mumbai, The Old Guard, Adrift, Patrick Melrose, Ammonite, One Life) is reteaming with director Edward Berger on the upcoming thriller Conclave. The film starring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Lucian Msamati, Carlos Diehz, Brían F. O’Byrne, Sergio Castellitto, Merab Ninidze & Isabella Rossellini follows a cardinal who is tasked with the covert process of finding a new pope after the unexpected death of the predecessor and finds himself at the center of a conspiracy when he discovers a secret that could shake the very foundation of The Church. Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Frank) wrote the screenplay based on Robert Harris’ best-selling novel. Harris is also producing the project with Tessa Ross & Juliette Howell (The Iron Claw, The Wonder), Michael A. Jackman (The Good Nurse) and Alice Dawson are producing the project. Bertelmann has previously scored Berger’s last feature, All Quiet on the Western Front, for which the composer received his first Academy Award, and also collaborated with the filmmaker on the TV shows Patrick Melrose and Your Honor. Conclave is set to be released in Los Angeles and New York on November 1, 2024 by Focus Features before expanding to more markets on November 8.
Bertelmann has also recently recorded his score for Rupert Sanders’ The Crow, which will be released in theaters on August 23 (pushed back from its original June 7 release date) by Lionsgate.
