Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Black Widow, Top Gun: Maverick, His Dark Materials, Black Adam, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming film adaptation of the video game series Gran Turismo. The movie is directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium) and stars David Harbour, Archie Madekwe, Orlando Bloom, Djimon Hounsou, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Josha Stradowski, Daniel Puig, Thomas Kretschmann, Emelia Hartford, Maeve Courtier-Lilley, Pepe Barroso, and Sang Heon Lee. The racing thriller follows a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won him a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race-car driver. Jason Hall (American Sniper) and Zach Baylin (King Richard) wrote the screenplay. Doug Belgrad (Bad Boys for Life, Charlie’s Angels) and Dana Brunetti (The Social Network, House of Crds)are producing the project with PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash & Carter Swan (The Last of Us). Barton was originally scoring the film as announced by Blomkamp. Balfe has previously collaborated with Blomkamp on several short films. Gran Turismo is scheduled to be released in theaters nationwide on August 11, 2023 by Sony Pictures.
