Neon confirmed today that singer/songwriter Damon Albarn (of the rock band Blur) has provided original songs and the original score for the upcoming comedy drama Artificial. The film is directed by Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name, Challengers) and stars Andrew Garfield, Monica Barbaro, Yura Borisov, Ike Barinholtz, Cooper Hoffman, Cooper Koch, Jason Schwartzman, Zosia Mamet, Angus Imrie, Billie Lourd, Chris O’Dowd and Mark Rylance. The movie chronicles the incredibly consequential days leading up to the sudden firing and reinstatement of Sam Altman as CEO of OpenAI, as the fate of who gets to control the technology at the center of an AI arms race hangs in the balance. Simon Rich (Miracle Workers, An American Pickle) wrote the screenplay. Guadagnino and Rich are also producing the project with Heyday Films’ David Heyman (Gravity, Marriage Story) and Jeffrey Clifford (Up in the Air, No Strings Attached), as well as Jennifer Fox (Michael Clayton, Nightcrawler). Albarn has previously contributed music to several features, including Antonio Birds’s Ravenous and, as part of his musical collective Electric Wave Bureau, Joe Cornish’s The Kid Who Would Be King Broken and Rufus Norris’ Broken. Artificial is expected to be released later this year by Neon.
