DJ and writer/director D.W. Waterson has released a soundtrack album for the Canadian drama Backspot. The album features the film’s original score composed by Casey MQ (aka Casey Manierka-Quaile) (Firecrackers, Tammy’s Always Dying, Fitting In, Miss & Cry), as well as six tracks by Waterson. Backspot marks Waterson’s feature directorial debut and stars Devery Jacobs, Evan Rachel Wood, Shannyn Sossamon, Kudakwashe Rutendo, Wendy Crewson and Thomas Antony Olajide. The movie follows an ambitious cheerleader who struggles to handle the pressure when she and her girlfriend are both selected for an elite cheer squad. The drama premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and was released in select U.S. theaters and on VOD the following year by XYZ Films.
