Mychael Danna (Life of PiMoneyball, Girl, Interrupted, The Good Dinosaur, Capote, Little Miss Sunshine, The Addams Family, The Ice Storm) has been hired to score the upcoming period drama Embers. The film is directed by István Szabó (Sunshine, Mephisto) and stars Ralph Fiennes, Viggo Mortensen, Charlotte Rampling, Katherine Langford, Louis Hofmann, Evelyne Brochu, Gijs Blom and Jonah Russell. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Sándor Márai and revolves around two once inseparable friends, decades after one of them mysteriously disappeared and uncovers over the course of one evening the secret that tore them apart – and the woman at the center of it. Christopher Hampton (Atonement, Dangerous Liaisons) wrote the screenplay. Robert Lantos (Eastern Promises, Crimes of the Future) is producing the project for Serendipity Point Films, alongside Tibor Krsko for HGO Films. Danna has previously scored Szabó’s 2004 feature Being Julia. Embers has recently started production in Hungary. (Deadline)

Danna’s recent feature projects include Bharat Nalluri’s Flavia (co-scored with his brother Jeff), which just premiered in the UK last month on Sky Cinema and is currently awaiting a domestic release.
