Dan Deacon (Venom: The Last Dance, Hustle, Task, Ascension, The Changeling, Twixt, Rez Ball, Strawberry Mansion, Wedding Season) has composed the original music for the upcoming comedy thriller Chili Finger. The film is directed by Edd Benda & Stephen Helstad and stars Judy Greer, Sean Astin, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Madeline Wise, Sarah Herrman, Paul Stanko, Sara Sevigny, Shaya Harris and Dann Florek. The movie revolves around a small town lawyer whose life spirals into chaos when she discovers a severed finger in her chili and blackmails the restaurant for a cash payout in an effort to regain control over her mundane life. Helstad also wrote the screenplay. Sam Sandweiss (Head Count, 1BR) and Jo Henriquez are producing the project. Chili Finger will premiere this weekend at the 2026 SXSW Film Festival.
Deacon’s other recent projects include Sara Dosa’s documentary Time and Water, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released later this year. He also recently scored the upcoming HBO documentary The Dark Wizard. The film is directed by Peter Mortimer (The Dawn Wall) & Nick Rosen (The Alpinist) and centers on Dean Potter, the influential and controversial climb highline walke and base jumper, who achieves jaw-dropping feats while battling his inner demons. Halle Johns, Olivia Ahnemann (Porcelain War, Racing Extinction) and Zachary Barrand (Black Ice) are producing the project. The movie will also premiere this month at SXSW and will debut later this year on HBO.
