Ramin Djawadi (Westworld, Iron Man, Eternals, Pacific Rim, Uncharted, Clash of the Titans, A Wrinkle in Time) has provided the original score for the upcoming Netflix limited series Death by Lightning. The show is created by Mike Makowsky (Bad Education, I Think We’re Alone Now) based on Candice Millard’s 2011 novel Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President, and stars Michael Shannon, Matthew Macfadyen, Nick Offerman, Bradley Whitford, Shea Whigham and Betty Gilpin. The 4-part historical drama tells the story of James Garfield, who rose from obscurity to become America’s 20th President — and Charles Guiteau, the man who assassinated him. Makowsky is also executive producing the project with David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, Bernie Caulfield (Big Love, he Chair), as well as Matt Ross (Captain Fantastic, 28 Hotel Rooms) who is also directing. Djawadi has previously collaboraated with Benioff & Weiss on HBO’s Game of Thrones and Netflix’s 3 Body Problem, which has been renewed for a second season. Death by Lightning will premiere on November 6, 2025 exclusively on Netflix.
Djawadi also continues to score HBO’s House of the Dragon, which will return for its third season next year and Prime Video’s Fallout, which will return for its second season on December 17.
