Raffertie (The Substance, The Continental: From the World of John Wick, White Dragon, Zone 414, One Way, Bull) is scoring the upcoming comedy drama California Schemin’. The film marks the feature directorial debut of actor Jamex McAvoy and stars McAvoy himself, Séamus McLean Ross and Samuel Bottomley. The movie is based on a true story of two Scottish men pretending to be Americans to achieve their dreams of hip-hop stardom. Archie Thomson & Elaine Gracie wrote the screenplay based on Gavin Bain’s autobiography of the same name. Danny Page is producing the project for Homefront Productions, alongside Michael Mendelsohn (Running with the Devil, Prisoners of the Ghostland) for Patriot Pictures, as well as Paul Aniello (Damaged) for Tartan. California Schemin’ will premiere this September at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.
Raffertie’s other recent projects include Paul Andrew Williams’ drama/thriller Dragonfly starring Andrea Riseborough, Brenda Blethyn and Jason Watkins. The movie, which revolves around two neighbors who strike up an unlikely friendship, premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and is currently awaiting a release date.
