Sigur Rós lead singer Jónsi (Without Remorse, We Bought a Zoo) and Alex Somers (Captain FantasticNickel Boys, Holland, Honey BoyTogether, TogetherCausewayDawson City: Frozen Time) are reuniting to score the upcoming comedy drama Rental Family. The film is directed by Hikari (37 Seconds, Beef) and stars Brendan Fraser, Takehiro Hira, Mari Yamamoto, Shannon Gorman and Akira Emoto. The movie follows a lonely, down and out American actor living in Tokyo who starts working for a Japanese “rental family” company to play various stand-in roles in other people’s lives. Hikari also co-wrote the screenplay with Stephen Blahut and is producing the project with Eddie Vaisman (Bad Education, In a World…), Julia Lebedev (Dear White People, A Thousand and One) and Shin Yamaguchi (Ramen Shop). Jónsi & Somers have previously co-scored Cameron Crowe’s Aloha, Michael James Johnson’s All the Wilderness and the first season of the TV series Manhattan. Rental Family will be released in theaters on November 21, 2025 by Searchlight Pictures.
