Dan Romer (LucaStation Eleven, Beasts of No Nation, ManiacSuperman & LoisBeasts of the Southern Wild, Death of a Unicorn, The Good Doctor) is scoring the upcoming comedy drama Horsegirls. The film is written and directed by Lauren Meyering and stars Gretchen Mol, Jerod Haynes, Lillian Carrier, Tony Hale, Iqbal Theba and Matthew Schwab. The movie follows a neurodivergent 22-year-old woman dealing with her mother’s illness who discovers a source of strength in an unexpected place: the sport of hobbyhorsing. Michael Sherman (Skate Kitchen, Native Son), Alix Madigan-Yorkin (Winter’s Bone, White Bird in a Blizzard) and Mackenzie Breeden are producing the project. Horsegirls will premiere this June at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival.

Romer’s upcoming feature projects also include Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch movie, which will be released in theaters on May 23.
