Another movie opening nationwide is the faith-based animated feature The King of Kings directed by Seong-ho Jang and starring Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Oscar Isaac, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, Forest Whitaker, Mark Hamill and Roman Griffin Davis. The film’s original score is composed by Tae Seong Kim (Space Sweepers, Chicken Nugget, War of the Arrows, Gyeongseong Creature). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as Kristin Chenoweth’s original song Live Like That today. Also opening wide is the war action drama Warfare written and directed by Ray Mendoza & Alex Garland and starring D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Kit Connor, Cosmo Jarvis, Taylor John Smith, Finn Bennett, Joseph Quinn, Michael Gandolfini, Noah Centineo, Adain Bradley, Evan Holtzman, Henrique Zaga and Charles Melton. The film doesn’t feature an original score. Simon Astall serves as the project’s music supervisor and no soundtrack release is expected. The movie, which follows a platoon of American Navy SEALs on a surveillance mission gone wrong in insurgent territory, is being released by A24.
Opening in around 240 theaters is the comedy drama Sacramento co-written and directed by Michael Angarano and starring Michael Cera, Angarano himself, Maya Erskine and Kristen Stewart. Peter Erskine has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which follows energetic and free-spirited young man with a Peter Pan complex who convinces his long-time friend to hit pause on his blissful domestic life and embark on an impromptu road trip across California, premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival and is being distributed by Vertical.
Opening in New York this weekend before expanding to more U.S. markets in the coming weeks is the drama The Teacher written and directed by Farah Nabulsi and starring Saleh Bakri, Imogen Poots and Muhammad Abed El Rahman. The film’s original music is composed by Alex Baranowski (True Things, Locked In, The Windmere Children, The Kitchen, Midas Man, A Perfect Enemy, Rain Dogs). Sight Unseen has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last month.
