Composer Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of WaterHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Queen, The King’s SpeechPhilomenaGodzilla) is reteaming with director Wes Anderson on the upcoming comedy drama The Phoenician Scheme. The film starring Benicio del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Riz Ahmed, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Mathieu Amalric, Richard Ayoade, Hope Davis, Rupert Friend and Benedict Cumberbatch tells the story of a family and a family business. Anderson also wrote the screenplay based on a story by himself and Roman Coppola. He is also producing the project through his American Empirical Pictures banner, alongside Steven Rales (Conclave, My Old Ass) of Indian Paintbrush, Jeremy Dawson (The Whale, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) and John Peet. Desplat has previously scored Anderson’s last six features, including The Grand Budapest Hotel (for which he received his first Academy Award), Fantastic Mr. FoxMoonrise Kingdom, Isle of Dogs, The French Dispatch and Asteroid City. The Phoenician Scheme will be released in select theaters on May 30, 2025 by Focus Features before expanding nationwide on June 6.
