Matthew Herbert (Disobedience, The Wonder, A Fantastic Woman, Gloria Bell, The Responder, The Cave, The Beast Must Die, Temple) has composed the original music for the upcoming British drama Hot Milk. The film marks the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Rebecca Lenkiewicz (Ida, Colette, She Said) and stars Emma Mackey, Fiona Shaw, Vicky Krieps, Vincent Perez, Yann Gael, Patsy Ferran and Vangelis Mourikis. The movie based on the novel of the same title by Deborah Levy is set in the scorching heat of a Spanish summer and follows a mother and daughter as they travel to the seaside town of Almería to consult an enigmatic healer who may hold the key to the daughter’s mysterious illness which has left her confined to a wheelchair. Lenkiewicz also wrote the screenplay. Christine Langan (The Lost King, Miss Austen), Kate Glover (The Phantom of the Open) and Giorgos Karnavas (Inside) are producing the project. Hot Milk will premiere this month at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival.
Herbert also has Sebastián Lelio’s The Wave coming up. The composer has also recently scored Dea Kulumbegashvili’s April, which premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and has been picked up by Metrograph Pictures for a domestic release this yea.
