Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, 300, Deadpool 2, Watchmen, X, Dawn of the Dead, MaXXXine) & Joel J. Richard (Books of Blood, Quantico) have taken over scoring duties on the upcoming action thriller Ballerina. The film is directed by Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard, Underworld) and stars Ana de Armas, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Keanu Reeves. The movie takes place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and follows Eve Macarro who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma. Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead) wrote the screenplay. Basil Iwanyk (Sicario, The Town) & Erica Lee (Monkey Man, Bruised) are producing the project for Thunder Road Films, alongside John Wick director Chad Stahelski (for 87eleven) who reportedly has been heavily involved in shooting “additional action sequences” for the spin-off. Bates & Richard have previously scored all four installments in the John Wick series and Bates has also composed the music for the Stahelski-produced Netflix feature Day Shift. Marco Beltrami & Anna Drubich were originally attached to score the movie, when it was scheduled to open this past summer. Ballerina is set to be released in theaters nationwide on June 6, 2025 by Lionsgate.
Bates also continues to score CBS’ Tracker, which will return for its second season on October 13 and co-score Paramount+’s Criminal Minds Evolution, which has been renewed for a third season.
