Dan Deacon (The Changeling, Ascension, Twixt, Wedding Season, Strawberry Mansion, All Light, Everywhere) has provided the original score for the upcoming Netflix original film Rez Ball. The movie is directed by Sydney Freeland (Deidra & Laney Rob a Train, Drunktown’s Finest) and stars Jessica Matten, Kauchani Bratt, Cody Lightning, Amber Midthunder, Ernest David Tsosie, Dallas Goldtooth, Zoey Reyes, Kusem Goodwind and Julia Jones. The sports drama inspired by the book Canyon Dreams and the New York Times article by Michael Powell tells the story of the Chuska Warriors, a high school basketball team rich in Native American heritage who – after losing their star player – must bounce back to keep their championship dreams alive. Freeland also co-wrote the screenplay with Sterlin Harjo (Reservation Dogs). Katie Elmore & Maurício Mota (East Los High), Spencer Beighley (Shooting Stars), Jamal Henderson and LeBron James (Space Jam: A New Legacy, House Party) and Nancy Utley are producing the SpringHill Company, Wise Entertainment, Chernin Entertainment and Lake Ellyn Entertainment production. Kier Lehman serves as the project’s music supervisor. Deacon has previously scored the James-produced feature Hustle for SpringHill. Rez Ball will premiere on September 27, 2024 exclusively on Netflix.
