Jeff Russo (Fargo, Ripley, The Night Of, Legion, The Man Who Feel to Earth, For All Mankind) is returning to score the upcoming Paramount+ movie event Star Trek: Section 31. The film is written by Craig Sweeny (Elementary, Medium), directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi (The Fourth Kind) and stars Michelle Yeoh who is reprising her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou from Star Trek: Discovery, as well as Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez and James Hiroyuki Liao. The movie follows Georgiou as she joins a secret division of Starfleet and is taksed with protecting the United Federation of Planets, while also facing the sins of her past. Sweeny, Osunsanmi & Yeoh are also executive producing the CBS Studios production with Alex Kurtzman (Mission: Impossible III, The Island), Aaron Baiers (Star Trek: Lower Decks & Prodigy), Frank Siracusa & John Weber (The Handmaid’s Tale, Locke & Key), Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth. Russo has previously scored all episodes of Star Trek: Discovery, the first two seasons of Star Trek: Picard and also contributed the main title theme to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Star Trek: Section 31 will premiere in early 2025 on Paramount+.

Russo’s other recent projects include Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy, which will return for its fourth and final season on August 8, as well as Chiwetel Ejiofor’s feature Rob Peace, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released in theaters on August 16 by Republic Pictures.
