Christopher Willis (The Death of Stalin, The Personal History of David Copperfield, Veep, Schmigadoon!, Old Dads) is scoring the upcoming Disney Junior animated series Ariel. The show is based on Disney’s animated classic The Little Mermaid and stars Mykal-Michelle Harris in the title role, alongside Taye Diggs as King Triton, Amber Riley as Ursula, as well as Gracen Newton, Cruz Flateau, Elizabeth Phoenix Caro, Yvette Nicole Brown, Melissa Villaseñor, Kevin Michael Richardson and Ron Funches. The Wild Canary production is set in the Caribbean-inspired fairytale kingdom of Atlantica and follows the titular young mermaid princess as she embarks on underwater adventures with her family and friends. Lynne Southerland is executive producing the project. Anthony M. Jones, Sofia Quinn, Olivia Waithe, Chantry Johnson, Michelle Zarlenga & Rosemarie Tan have contributed the original songs to the show and Sean Skeete serves as the Caribbean music consultant. Willis has previously scored Disney’s The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse and numerous other Mickey Mouse shorts, as well as Disney Junior’s The Lion Guard. Disney Jr.’s Ariel will premiere on June 27 on Disney Junior and will also debut the following day on Disney+.
