Laurie Johnson has passed away last Tuesday, January 16, at age 96. The British composer has written numerous scores for TV and film between the late 1950s and early 90s. His best television scoring credits include the 60s spy classic The Avengers and its 1976 sequel series The New Avengers, ITV’s The Professionals & Jason King, the ITV anthology series Thriller. His work for film include Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, Brian Clemens’ 1974 horror movie Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter. Lee Thompson’s Tiger Bay, Robert Fuest’s 1970 feature And Soon the Darkness, Eric Till’s Hot Millions, Christopher Miles’ The Maids and Trevor Nunn’s Hedda. Johnson is survived by his wife, a daughter, son-in-law and grandson.
