Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout & Dead Reckoning, His Dark Materials, Black WidowThe Wheel of Time, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) has been tapped to score the upcoming Netflix original film Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. The movie is directed by Mark Molloy and stars Eddie Murphy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Judge Reinhold, Taylour Paige, Paul Reiser, John Ashton, Kevin Bacon and Bronson Pinchot. The fourth installment of the action comedy series follows Foley’s criminal defense attorney daughter who pulls her dad into a new case and teams up with a new partner to solve the crime. Will Beall (Aquaman, Gangster Squad) wrote the screenplay. Murphy is also producing the project with Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean, Armageddon) and Chad Oman (Remember the Titans, Coyote Ugly). Harold Faltermeyer has scored the first two installments of the franchise (and created the classic Axel F theme), while Nile Rodgers composed the music for 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop III. Balfe has previously scored several films produced by Bruckheimer, including 12 Strong, Gemini Man, Bad Boys for Life, Secret Headquarters, as well as last year’s Top Gun: Maverick (with Hans Zimmer, Faltermeyer & Lady Gaga). Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F will premiere in the summer of 2024 on Netflix.

Balfe’s other upcoming feature projects include Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle, which is set to be released in theaters nationwide on February 2, 2024 by Universal Pictures before its streaming debut on Apple TV+, as well as Christopher McQuarrie’s currently untitled Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning sequel, which is scheduled to open in theaters on May 23, 2025.
