The Newton Brothers (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, Doctor Sleep, Life of Crime, Oculus, The Midnight Club) have recently been recording their music for the upcoming horror movie Five Nights at Freddy’s. The film is directed by Emma Tammi (The Wind) and stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Mary Stuart Masterson, Kat Conner Sterling, Piper Rubio and Matthew Lillard. The Blumhouse production is based on the video game series created by Scott Cawthon and follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, when he realizes the night shift won’t be so easy to make it through. Tammi also co-wrote the screenplay with Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback. Cawthon is also producing the project with Blumhouse’s Jason Blum (Get Out, Halloween). The Newton Brothers have previously scored the Blum-produced 2021 feature The Forever Purge. Five Nights at Freddy’s will be released in theaters nationwide on October 27, 2023 by Universal Pictures and will also be available to stream on Peacock on the same day.
The composer’ other upcoming projects include the Netflix series The Fall of the House of Usher (to premiere on October 12, 2023) and Marvel Studios’ animated series X-Men ’97 (to premiere in 2024 on Disney+, pushed back from the original fall of 2023 release date).
