Opening in theaters nationwide this week is the spy/action movie Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One co-written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie and starring Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby and Henry Czerny. The film’s original score is composed by Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Black Widow, Black Adam, Top Gun: Maverick). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. CD and vinyl editions will be released by La-La Land Records and Mondo. Opening semi-wide in around 650 U.S. theaters is the Irish comedy drama The Miracle Club directed by Thaddeus O’Sullivan and starring Laura Linney, Kathy Bates, Maggie Smith, Agnes O’Casey and Stephen Rea. Edmund Butt (Life on Mars, Dalíland, Origin, Finding Alice, Bancroft, Mistress) has composed the film’s original music. Dubois Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Opening in select cities today before expanding to more markets over the coming weeks is the comedy Theater Camp co-written and directed by Molly Gordon & Nick Lieberman and starring Ben Platt, Noah Galvin, Gordon herself, Jimmy Tatro, Nathan Lee Graham, Patti Harrison, Ayo Edebiri, Owen Thiele, Alexander Bello, Alan Kim and Amy Sedaris. The film’s original score is composed by James McAlister and Mark Sonnenblick who also wrote the project’s original songs with Gordon, Lieberman, Platt and Galvin. No word yet on a soundtrack release. The movie, which revolves two lifelong best friends and drama instructors at a rundown camp in upstate New York, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film and is being distributed by Searchlight Pictures.
Opening in New York and Los Angeles today following a release in San Francisco last weekend is the drama Earth Mama written and directed by Savanah Leaf and starring Tia Nomore, Erika Alexander, Dominic Fike, Doechii, Bokeem Woodbine and Sharon Duncan Brewster. Kelsey Lu has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. Opening in select U.S. theaters today is the zombie comedy Final Cut (Coupez!) written and directed by Michel Hazanavicius and starring Romain Duris, Bérénice Bejo, Matilda Lutz, Grégory Gadebois, Finnegan Oldfield and Raphaël Quenard. Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Queen, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The King’s Speech) has composed the film’s original music. Rambling Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last summer. Opening in New York today before expanding to more markets in the coming weeks is the documentary 20 Days in Mariupol directed by Mstyslav Chernov about the early days of Russia’s invasion of the titular Ukrainian city. The film’s original music is composed by Jordan Dykstra (Blow the Man Down, Restless). Editions Verde has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Opening in select theaters today is the Netflix original film They Cloned Tyrone co-written and directed by Juel Taylor and starring John Boyega, Jamie Foxx, Teyonah Parris, Kiefer Sutherland, David Alan Grier, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Eric Robinson Jr. and Tamberla Perry. Desmond Murray and Pierre Charles (Inventing Anna, East New York) have composed the original score for the sci-f comedy. No soundtrack album has been announced for the movie, which will premiere next Friday, July 21 on Netflix.
Also opening in select theaters today is the documentary The Deepest Breath directed by Laura McGann about a record-setting champion and a heroic safety diver who try to make history with a remarkable feat. The film’s original music is composed by Nainita Desai (For Sama, Crossfire, Funny Woman, The Reason I Jump, The Tower). The movie premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be available to stream next Wednesday, July 19, on Netflix.
