Nick Cave & Warren Ellis (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Dahmer: Monster – The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Hell or High Water, Blonde, The Road) have composed the original music for the new Australian period drama The New Boy. The film is written and directed by Warwick Thornton (Sweet Country, Samson & Delilah) and stars Aswan Reid, Cate Blanchett, Deborah Mailman and Wayne Blair. The movie is set in 1940s Australia and revolves around a 9-year-old Aboriginal boy who arrives in the dead of night at a remote monastery run by a renegade nun. Blanchett is also producing the project with Kath Shelper, Andrew Upton (Stateless) and Lorenzo de Maio. The New Boy is premiering today at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and is set to be released in Australian theaters this July.
