Kenneth Branagh announced today that Hildur Guđnadóttir (Joker, Chernobyl, Women Talking, Tar, Sicario: Day of the Soldado) will compose the original score for the upcoming supernatural mystery thriller A Haunting in Venice. The follow-up to Murder on the Orient Express & Death on the Nile (scored by Patrick Doyle) is directed by Branagh and stars the filmmaker himself, Kyle Allen, Michelle Yeoh, Camille Cottin, Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Kelly Reilly, Emma Laird and Riccardo Scamarcio. The movie is set in eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve and follows Hercule Poirot as he reluctantly attends a séance, when one of the guests is murdered. Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049) wrote the screenplay based on Agatha Christie’s Hallowe’en Party. Branagh is also producing the project with Judy Hofflund (Panic Room, 8MM), Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Alien) and Simon Kinberg (The Martian, Deadpool). A Haunting in Venice will be released in theaters nationwide on September 15, 2023 by 20th Century Studios.

As previously reported, Guđnadóttir also has Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux coming up.

  1. Bernd-Helmut Heine says:

What has happened to the Brannagh-Doyle-partnership? Was Patrick D. unavailable? Does anyone have any further information about that?

    • Suro-Zet says:

Doyle currently working on music for Prince Charles coronation. I guess this explains why he chose to bow out the work. I see no other reasons why Kenneth Branagh chose to break a long partnership with Doyle and chose an other composer.
