John Powell (The Bourne Identity, Happy Feet, Solo: A Star Wars Story, United 93, Shrek, X-Men: The Last Stand) has confirmed that he will be returning to score the just announced live-action adaptation of DreamWorks Animation’s feature How to Train Your Dragon. The film will be written and directed by Dean DeBlois who co-directed the 2010 original film and helmed both sequels. He is also producing the project with Marc Platt (La La Land, Bridge of Spies) and Adam Siegel,. Powell has received his first (and – to date – only) Academy Award nomination for his work on the first animated film. The live-action How to Train Your Dragon film is set to be released on March 14, 2025 by Universal Pictures.
Powell’s other recent projects include Davis Guggenheim’s documentary Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released in select theaters later and debut on Apple TV+ this year.
