Eduard Artemyev has passed away at age 85. The Russian composer was best known internationally for his scores for the films of Andrei Tarkovsky, including the 1972 sci-fi classic Solaris, 1975’s Mirror and 1979’s Stalker. He also composed the music for numerous movies directed by Nikita Mikhalkov, including At Home Among Strangers, a Stranger Among His Own, A Slave of Love, Unfinished Piece for the Player Piano, Close to Eden, Burnt by the Sun, The Barber of Siberia and 12. His other film scoring credits include Andrei Konchalovsky’s Siberiade, Karen Shakhnazarov’s Courier and Hardy Martins’s As Far as My Feet Will Carry Me.
