Carter Burwell (Fargo,True Grit, Carol, Twilight, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) has composed the original music for the upcoming thriller Misanthrope. The film is directed by Damián Szifron (Wild Tales, On Probation) and stars Shailene Woodley, Ben Mendelsohn and Jovan Adepo. The movie follows a talented, but troubled cop, who is recruited by the FBI to help profile and track down a mass murderer. Szifron also co-wrote the screenplay with Jonathan Wakeham. He is also producing the project with Woodley, FilmNation Entertainment’s Aaron Ryder (Arrival, Mud, Pieces of a Woman) and Stuart Manashil (Irma Vep, City of Lies). Misanthrope is expected to premiere in 2023.
Burwell’s other recent projects include Lena Dunham’s Catherine Called Birdy, which is currently playing in select theaters before premiering on Prime Video this Friday, October 7, as well as Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin, which premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival and will be released in theaters on October 21 by Searchlight Pictures.
