British singer/songwriter Ray BLK (aka Rita Ekwhere) will serve as the music executive producer on the upcoming BBC/Netflix series Champion. The show is created by Candice Carty-Williams and stars Déja J Bowens, Malcolm Kamulete, Nadine Marshall, Ray Fearon, Jo Martin, Kerim Hassan, Adeyinka Akinrinade, Genesis Lynea, Tom Forbes, Francis Lovehall, Karl Collins, Corey Weekes and Rachel Adedeji. Ray BLK will also star in the musical drama, which is set in south London and centers on the rivalry between a rap sensation who is home from prison and his dutiful younger sister whose own talent is discovered and steps out of her brother’s shadow. Carty-Williams is also executive producing the Balloon Entertainment and New Pictures production Bryan Elsley (Skins, Clique), Dave Evans (Eden), Danielle Scott-Haughton (Boxing Day), Charlie Pattinson (Dalgliesh, Cobra), Willow Grylls (The Missing, Des), Imogen O’Sullivan and Jo McClellan (I May Destroy You, The Last Panthers). Champion is expected to premiere in 2023 in the UK on BBC One and in other markets on Netflix.
