Artie Kane has passed away at age 93. The composer, conductor and pianist scored numerous film and television productions between the mid-1970s and early 90s. Among his feature scoring credits are Irvin Kershner’s Eyes of Laura Mars, Richard Brooks’ Looking for Mr. Goodbar & Wrong Is Right, Jerry Jameson’s The Bat People and Robert Butler’s Night of the Juggler. His work as a TV composer include such shows as Matlock, Dynasty, Vega$, The Love Beat and several Gunsmoke television movies. Earlier in his career, he performed as a studio pianist on scores by Michel Legrand (The Thomas Crown Affair), Jerry Goldsmith (Planet of the Apes), John Williams (The Towering Inferno), Lalo Schifrin (Kelly’s Heroes), among others. Kane was also known as a conductor for composers including James Newton Howard (Outbreak, Waterworld), Danny Elfman (Mission: Impossible, Good Will Hunting) and Marc Shaiman (A Few Good Men, Sister Act) during the 90s.
