Composer Christopher Spelman is reuniting with director James Gray on the upcoming coming-of-age drama Armageddon Time. The film is written and directed by Gray (Ad Astra, Little Odessa) and stars Anthony Hopkins, Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong, Andrew Polk and Tovah Feldshuh. The movie is inspired by Gray’s life in a pre-Reagan America in Queens, New York and tells a story of the strength of family and the generational pursuit of happiness. Gray is also producing the project with Anthony Katagas (12 Years a Slave, Nerve), Marc Butan and Rodrigo Teixeira (Call Me By Your Name, The Lighthouse). Spelman has previously scored Gray’s features The Lost City of Z and The Immigrant and also collaborated with the filmmaker on Two Lovers (as music adaptor/arranger) and We Own the Night & The Yards (as music consultant). Armageddon Time will premiere later this month at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and is expected to be released in theaters this year by Focus Features.
