Composer Carter Burwell (Fargo, Carol, True Grit, Twilight, The Tragedy of Macbeth) is reteaming with director Martin McDonagh on the upcoming drama The Banshees of Inisherin. The film is written and directed by McDonagh and stars Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon. The movie follows of a pair of lifelong friends on a remote Irish island who find themselves at an awkward time in their relationship when one of them no longer wants to be friends. Graham Broadbent & Peter Czernin (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Emma) are producing the project for Blueprint Pictures. Burwell has previously scored McDonagh’s first three features, In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, for which he received an Academy Award nomination. The Banshees of Inisherin is set to be released in U.S. theaters on October 21, 2022 by Searchlight Pictures.
Burwell’s other upcoming projects also include Lena Dunham’s Catherine, Called Birdy, which will premiere this year on Amazon Prime. The composer is also expected to return to score the third season of Apple TV+’s The Morning Show.
