Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (Ozark, Boy Erased, The White Tiger, The Gift, The Devil All the Time, Enemy, Martha Marcy May Marlene) are scoring the upcoming HBO Max original series Tokyo Vice. The show is created and written by J.T. Rogers (Oslo) and stars Ansel Elgort, Ken Watanabe, Rinko Kikuchi, Rachel Keller, Hideaki Ito, Ella Rumpf, Show Kasamatsu and Tomohisa Yamashita. The crime drama is inspired by American journalist Jake Adelstein’s non-fiction first-hand account of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police beat and follows Adelstein’s daily descent into the neon-soaked underbelly of Tokyo in the late ‘90s. Rogers, Adelstein, Elgort & Watanabe are also executive producing the Endeavor Content and WOWOW production with Alan Poul (Six Feet Under, The Newsroom), Emily Gerson Saines (Blindspotting), Brad Kane (Black Sails, Warrior), Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Short Term 12),Kayo Washio, John Lesher (Birdman, End of Watch), as well as Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral) who also directed the pilot episode. Tokyo Vice will premiere on April 7 exclusively on HBO Max.
Bensi’s and Jurriaans’ other recent and upcoming TV scoring projects include the final season of Netflix’s Ozark, Amazon’s Outer Range (to premiere on April 15), and AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, which has been renewed for an eighth season.
