Nathan Halpern (The Rider, Swallow, One Percent More Humid, Minding the Gap, In the Same Breath, Rich Hill) ) has composed the original score for the upcoming thriller Emily the Criminal. The film is written and directed by John Patton Ford and stars Aubrey Plaza, Theo Rossi, Megalyn Echikunwoke and Gina Gershon. The movie follows a young woman saddled with student debt and locked out of the job market due to a minor criminal record who gets involved in a credit card scam that pulls her into the criminal underworld of Los Angeles. Plaza is also producing the Low Spark Films production with Tyler Davidson (Take Shelter, The Kings of Summer, The Signal) and Drew Sykes. Emily the Criminal will premiere next week at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.
Also coming up for Halpern are Chloe Okuno’s thriller Watcher and Anne Alvergue’s documentary The Martha Mitchell Effect (co-scored with Chris Ruggiero), both of which will also premiere at Sundance. He also recently scored Josef Kubota Wladyka’s Catch the Fair One, which will be released in select theaters and on VOD on February 11 by IFC Films.
