Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Shape of Water, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Queen, The King’s Speech) has been tapped to score the upcoming French horror comedy Final Cut (Z (comme Z)). The film is written and directed by Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist, OSS 117) and stars Romain Duris, Bérénice Bejo, Grégory Gadebois, Finnegan Oldfield, Matilda Lutz and Raphaël Quenard. The movie is based on Shinichiro Ueda’s Japanese feature One Cut of the Dead and follows an abusive director of a low-budget zombie horror as he tries to inject energy and excitement into the project by unlocking a real-life ancient zombie curse. Hazanavicius is also producing the project with John Penotti (Crazy Rich Asians, Greta), Noëmie Devide (Oxygen), Alain de la Mata (Raising Victor Vargas), Brahim Chioua (Blue Is the Warmest Color, Enter the Void) and Vincent Maraval (The Neon Demon). Final Cut will premiere next month at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.
Desplat’s other upcoming projects include Graham Moore’s The Outfit, Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Ellen Kuras’ LEE and Rebecca Miller’s She Came to Me.
