Germaine Franco (Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Tag, Dope Little) has recently been recording her score for the upcoming animated feature Encanto. The film is directed by Byron Howard (Tangled, Bolt) & Jared Bush (Zootopia) and features the voices of Stephanie Beatriz, María Cecilia Botero, Wilmer Valderrama, Adassa, Diane Guerrero, Angie Cepeda, Mauro Castillo, Jessica Darrow, Rhenzy Feliz and Carolina Gaitan. The movie tells the story of the Madrigals family who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a wondrous place called an Encanto and follows an ordinary 15-year-old who’s struggling to find her place in her family. Lin-Manuel Miranda has composed the original songs for the Walt Disney Animation Studios production. Clark Spencer (Wreck-It-Ralph, Ralph Breaks the Internet) and Yvett Merino are producing the project. Franco has previously co-written and produced five of the original songs in Disney/Pixar’s Coco and also contributed additional music to the film. Encanto is set to be released in theaters on November 24, 2021 by Walt Disney Pictures.

That’s the first Disney animated feature to have a musical score composed by a woman. Wow! Great news.
Major W. Germaine Franco is a great composer.
Do you not believe that this upcoming film is the first one from Disney Animation to have a female film score composer?
I can’t wait for this movie! Looks so beautiful (like Coco and Moana)
More like similar since it’s the same animation software they’ve been using since Tangled.
