The Newton Brothers (The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep, The Forever Purge, Life of Crime, The Walking Dead: World Beyond) have recently been recording their score for the upcoming survival thriller Borrego. The film is written and directed by Jesse Harris and stars Lucy Hale, Nicholas Gonzalez, Leynar Gómez, Olivia Trujillo and Jorge A. Jimenez. The movie revolves around a young botanist who relocates to a small desert town to study an invasive plant species and ends up fighting for her survival after being kidnapped by an inexperienced drug mule when his plane crashes in the desert. Harris is also producing the project with Damiano Tucci (The Hurricane Heist), Tiziano Tucci, Greg Lauritano, Nancy Cartwright & Monica Gil-Rodriguez (In Search of Fellini). No release date or distribution deal has been announced yet for Borrego.
Also coming up for the composers is the Netflix limited series Midnight Mass created and directed by Mike Flanagan and starring Zach Gilford, Hamish Linklater, Kate Siegel, Rahul Abburi, Crystal Balint, Alex Essoe, Matt Biedel, Annarah Cymone, Rahul Kohli, Annabeth Gish, Kristin Lehman, Igby Rigney, Robert Longstreet, Samantha Sloyan, Henry Thomas and Michael Trucco. The 7-parter tells the tale of a small, isolated island community whose existing divisions are amplified by the return of a disgraced young man and the arrival of a charismatic priest. The series will premiere on September 24 exclusively on Netflix.
