Laura Karpman (Lovecraft Country, Set It Up, Why We Hate, Step, Paris Can Wait, Underground) has composed the original score for the new Netflix original film Resort to Love. The movie is directed by Steven Tsuchida (Life-Size 2) and stars Christina Milian, Jay Pharoah, Sinqua Walls, Tymberlee Hill, Jeryl Prescott Gallien, Christiani Pitts, Karen Obilom, Alexander Hodge, T.J. Power, Sylvaine Strike and Kayne Lee Harrison. The romantic comedy follows a singer reeling from a broken engagement and career meltdown who takes a gig at a swanky island resort, where her ex-fiancé happens to be getting married. Tabi McCartney and Dana Schmalenberg wrote the screenplay based on a story by McCartney. Alicia Keys is producing the project with Maggie Malina (Scream: The TV Series) and Jeremy Kipp Walker (Sugar, Cold Souls). Resort to Love will premiere on July 29, 2021 exclusively on Netflix.
Karpman’s other upcoming projects include Marvel’s animated Disney+ series What If…?, which will premiere on August 11. She also recently co-scored Kristine Stolakis’ documentary Pray Away (with Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum), which premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and will debut on Netflix on August 3.
