Composer Kris Bowers (Green Book, Bridgerton, Dear White People, When They See Us, The United States vs. Billie Holiday) is reuniting with director Reinaldo Marcus Green on the upcoming drama King Richard. The film stars Will Smith as Richard Williams and Saniyya Sidney & Demi Singleton as his daughters, tennis stars Venus and Serena. Jon Bernthal, Aunjanue Ellis,Tony Goldwyn and Dylan McDermott are co-starring. The tells the story of how Richard overcome hardship, skepticism and controversy to make his daughters the greatest tennis players in the world Zach Baylin wrote the screenplay. Smith is also producing the project with James Lassiter (I Am Legend, The Karate Kid) for Westbrook Studios, alongside Tim White & Trevor White (Ingrid Goes West, LBJ) for Starthrower Entertainment. Bowers has previously scored Green’s first feature, Monsters and Men. King Richard is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on November 19, 2021 and will premiere on HBO Max on the same day.
Bowers’ other upcoming feature projects include Space Jam: A New Legacy, which will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on July 16, as well as the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect, which is set to open in theaters on August 13. He is also set to score the second season of Netflix’s Bridgerton.
