Peter Nashel (I, Tonya, Marco Polo, The Night Listener, Book Club, Bee Season) has composed the original score for the new HBO documentary The Crime of the Century. The 2-parter is directed by Alex Gibney (We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks, Taxi to the Dark Side, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room) and explores the origins, extent, and fallout of the opioid crisis, one of the most devastating public health tragedies of our time, with half a million deaths from overdoses this century alone. Gibney is also producing the project with Sarah Dowland and Svetlana Zill. Stacey Offman (Dirty Money, Laurel Canyon), Richard Perello (Super Troopers, Beerfest), Todd Hoffman (The Confirmation, Labor Pains) and Aaron Fishman serve as the executive producers. Nashel has previously co-scored Gibney’s 2020 documentary feature Totally Under Control. The Crime of the Century will premiere on May 10 on HBO and will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
As previously reported, Nashel also has the action thriller Last Looks starring Charlie Hunnam, Morena Baccarin & Mel Gibson coming up.
