Sherri Chung (Batwoman, Blindspot, Riverdale, The Lost Husband) has been tapped to score the upcoming CW drama Kung Fu. The show is developed by Christina M. Kim (inspired by the original 70s series created by Ed Spielman) and stars Olivia Liang, Kheng Hua Tan, Shannon Dang, Jon Prasida, Eddie Liu, Gavin Stenhouse, Vanessa Kai,Tony Chung and Tzi Ma. The series revolves around a young Chinese American woman who returns to San Francisco from a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China and, when she finds her hometown overrun with crime and corruption, relies on her martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community and bring criminals to justice. Kim (Blindspot) is also executive producing the Warner Bros. Television production with Robert Berens (Supernatural), Greg Berlanti (Love, Simon, Everwood), Sarah Schechter (Doom Patrol, Titans), Martin Gero (Blindspot, Stargate: Atlantis) and David Madden. Kung Fu is set to premiere on April 7, 2021 and will air every Wednesday night on The CW.
Note: An earlier version of this article stated that Blake Neely will be co-scoring the show. The composer was confirmed to be attached to score the series a couple of months ago, but Chung will be receiving solo credit.
Chung also continues to co-score The CW’s Batwoman, which currently airs in its second season Sunday nights, as well as Riverdale, which airs in its fifth season every Wednesday night.
