Netflix announced today that Volker Bertelmann (aka Hauschka) (Lion, Hotel Mumbai, Ammonite, The Old Guard, Patrick Melrose, The Art of Racing in the Rain) is set to score the upcoming drama Against the Ice. The film is directed by Peter Flinth (Arn: The Knight Templar, Nobel’s Last Wil) and stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Joe Cole, Charles Dance and Heida Reed. The movie based on the Danish novel Two Against the Ice by Ejnar Mikkelsen is set in the early 1900s and centers on Denmark’s Alabama Expedition, led by Captain Ejnar Mikkelsen who was attempting to disprove the United States’ claim to North Eastern Greenland. Coster-Waldau also co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Derrick. Baltasar Kormákur (Everest, 2 Guns, 101 Reykjavík) is producing the project for RVK Studios. Bertelmann has previously scored the Kormakur-directed feature Adrift. Against the Ice just finished principal photography and is set to premiere later this year on Netflix.
Bertelmann’s other recent projects include Showtime’s Your Honor, which currently airs Sunday nights, Joe Penna’s sci-fi thriller Stowaway, which will premiere on Netflix later this year, as well as Franka Potente’s Home, which premiered at last year’s Rome Film Festival and is currently awaiting a release date.
