Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, Babel, The Motorcycle Diaries, The Book of Life) has recently scored the upcoming Hulu horror anthology series Monsterland. The show is created by Mary Laws (The Neon Demon) based on the collection of stories from Nathan Ballingrud’s North American Lake Monsters and stars Kaitlyn Dever, Taylor Schilling, Mike Colter, Kelly Marie Tran, Jonathan Tucker, Nicole Beharie, Adepero Oduye, Roberta Colindrez, Charlie Tahan and Hamish Linklater. The drama follows a group of broken people driven to desperate acts in an attempt to repair their lives and will feature encounters with mermaids, fallen angels, and a variety of other mythical creatures and horrors. Laws is also executive producing the Annapurna TV production with Ali Krug (Soundtrack), Lucan Toh (Wounds, iBoy), Megan Ellison (Her, Foxcatcher) and Sue Naegle (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Shirley). Monsterland will premiere on October 2, 2020 on Hulu.
Santaolalla’s other upcoming projects include Miguel Sapochnik’s sci-fi drama BIOS and HBO’s The Last of Us TV series.
