Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder, Bombshell, Spy, Ghostbusters) has been tapped to score the upcoming biographical drama The Eyes of Tammy Faye. The film is directed by Michael Showalter (The Big Sick, Hello, My Name Is Doris) and stars Jessica Chastain, Andrew Garfield, Cherry Jones, Sam Jaeger, Vincent D’Onofrio, Gabriel Olds, Mark Wystrach, Chandler Hand, Fredric Lehne and Jay Hugule. The movie is based on the 2000 documentary of the same title by Fenton Bailey & Randy Barbato and tells the story of the extraordinary rise, fall and redemption of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker e and her husband, Jim Bakker, who rose from humble beginnings to create the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and theme park, and were revered for their message of love, acceptance and prosperity. Abe Sylvia (Dirty Girl) wrote the screenplay. Chastain is also producing the project with Kelly Carmichael (The Chaperone) for their Freckle Films production company, alongside Gigi Pritzker (Drive , Motherless Brooklyn) and Rachel Shane for MWM Studios. Shapiro has previously co-scored Showalter’s feature directorial debut The Baxter. The Eyes of Tammy Faye is currently in post-production and will be distributed by Searchlight Pictures. No release date has been announced yet.
As previously reported, Shapiro also has Maya Forbes’ & Wally Wolodarsky’s comedy drama The Good House starring Kevin Kline & Sigourney Weaver coming up. The composer’s other recent projects include DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls World Tour, which is currently playing in theaters and is also available on VOD.
