Hans Zimmer is reteaming with director Ron Howard on the upcoming Netflix original film Hillbilly Elegy. The film starring Amy Adams, Glenn Close, Gabriel Basso, Haley Bennett, Freida Pinto, Bo Hopkins and Owen Asztalo is based on the bestselling memoir by J.D. Vance and follows a Yale law student who drawn back to his hometown grapples with family history, Appalachian values and the American dream. Vanessa Taylor (The Shape of Water, Divergent) wrote the screenplay. Howard (A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13) is also producing the project with Brian Grazer (Friday Night Lights, 24) and Karen Lunder (Gifted) for Imagine Entertainment. Zimmer has previously collaborated with Howard on such films as Backdraft, Frost/Nixon, The DaVinci Code, Angels & Demons, Inferno, Rush, The Dilemma, as well as this year’s Rebuilding Paradise. Hillbilly Elegy is expected to be released in select theaters and on Netflix this fall.
Zimmer also has the James Bond movie No Time to Die, Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984, Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, as well as the animated feature The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run coming up.
