Rob Simonsen is composing the original score for the upcoming drama The Friend. The film is directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite (Megan Leavey, Blackfish) and stars Jason Segel, Dakota Johnson, Casey Affleck, Gwendoline Christie, Cherry Jones and Ahna O’Reilly . The movie is based on the award-winning Esquire article of the same name and follows a man who puts his own life on hold to move into the family home of his best friends and support them through a terminal cancer diagnosis. Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace) wrote the screenplay. Kevin Walsh (Manchester by the Sea, All the Money in the World), Michael Pruss (Equals) & Ryan Stowell are producing the project for Scott Free, alongside Teddy Schwarzman (The Imitation Game, All Is Lost) for Black Bear. Ridley Scott is among the executive producers. The Friend will premiere in September at the 2019 Toronto Film Festival.
Simonsen’s other upcoming projects include Gavin O’Connor’s The Way Back and Julia Hart’s Stargirl.
