Premiering tonight is the new HBO original series The Righteous Gemstones created by Danny McBride and starring himself, John Goodman, Edi Patterson, Adam Devine, Cassidy Freeman, Tony Cavalero, Tim Baltz and Greg Alan Williams. The show’s original music composed by Joseph Stephens (Observe and Report, Flower, Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals). Premiering on Wednesday, August 21, is the Hulu original series This Way Up created by Aisling Bea who also stars in the comedy alongside Sharon Horgan, Aasif Mandvi, Tobias Menzies, Indira Varma, Sorcha Cusack, Chris Geere, Kadiff Kirwan, Ricky Grover and Daniela Spataru. Vince Pope (Misfits, Undercover, Bedlam) is composing the show’s original music. The comedy, which is co-produced by Channel 4, follows a whip-smart English-as-a-foreign language teacher as she is trying to pull her life back together after a nervous breakdown. The comedy will be available to stream stateside exclusively on Hulu.
Premiering on Saturday, August 24, is the Showtime original documentary Hitsville: The Making of Motown directed by Benjamin & Gabe Turner about the legendary Motown Records. The film’s original score is composed by Ian Arber (My Name Is Lenny, After the Screaming Stops, Scott and Sid). A soundtrack album featuring songs by Motown artists such as The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Jackson 5, The Isley Brothers has been released in several different versions by Motown Records.
