Joseph Stephens is set to score the upcoming HBO original series The Righteous Gemstones. The show is created by Danny McBride who also stars in the series, alongside John Goodman, Edi Patterson, Adam Devine, Cassidy Freeman, Tony Cavalero, Tim Baltz and GregAlan Williams. The comedy revolves around a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed and charitable work – all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. McBride is also producing the project with Jody Hill and David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, Halloween). Stephens (Flower) has previously scored the McBride-, Hill- & Green-produced HBO shows Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals. and also composed the Hill-directed features Observe and Report & The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter. The Righteous Gemstones is expected to premiere later this year on HBO.
Stephens also continues to score the TBC comedy The Last O.G., which will return for its second season on April 2, 2019. He also recently composed the music for the indie comedy Under the Eiffel Tower directed by Archie Borders and starring Matt Walsh, Judith Godrèche, Reid Scott, David Wain, Michaela Watkins, Dylan Gelula, Gary Cole and Ary Abittan. The movie will be released in select theaters on February 8 by The Orchard and is also coming out on VOD on February 12.
