Kris Bowers (Green Book, Dear White People, Monsters and Men) has been tapped to score the upcoming Netflix limited series When They See Us. The show is created and directed by Ava DuVernay (Selma, A Wrinkle in Time, 13th) and stars Michael K. Williams, John Leguizamo, Felicity Huffman, Niecy Nash, Blair Underwood, Christopher Jackson, Joshua Jackson, Omar J. Dorsey, Adepero Oduye, Famke Janssen, Aurora Perrineau, William Sadler, Jharrel Jerome and Jovan Adepo. The drama chronicle the notorious case of five teenagers of color, labeled the Central Park Five, who were convicted of a rape they did not commit. DuVernay also co-wrote the series and is producing the project with Jeff Skoll (An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power) & Jonathan King (On the Basis of Sex) for Participant Media, Oprah Winfrey for Harpo Films, and Berry Welsh, Robert De Niro & Jane Rosenthal (Meet the Parents, The Good Shepherd) for Tribeca Productions. When They See Us will premiere on May 31 on Netflix.
As previously reported, Bowers also has Justin Simien’s feature comedy Bad Hair coming up and also continues to score ABC’s For the People, which currently airs in its second season every Thursday night and Netflix’s Dear White People, which will return for its third season later this year. He also recently scored the first season of Showtime’s Black Monday, which currently airs Sunday nights.
