Junkie XL (aka Tom Holkenborg) has recently recorded his music for the upcoming film adaptation of Mortal Engines. The film is directed by Christian Rivers and stars Hugo Weaving Hera Hilmar, Robert Sheehan, Jihae, Ronan Rafterty, Leila George, Patrick Maladhide and Stephen Lang. The movie based on Philip Reeve’s book of the same title is set thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event and cities survive a now desolate Earth by moving around on giant wheels attacking and devouring smaller towns to replenish their resources. Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, King Kong) co-wrote the screenplay with Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens and is also producing the project with Zane Weiner, Amanda Walker and Deborah Forte. Mortal Engines is set to be released on December 14, 2018 by Universal Pictures. Visit the official movie website for more information.

Holkenborg’s upcoming projects also include Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel, which is set to be released on December 21, 2018 by 20th Century Fox.

Holy crap. This should be one very stellar collaboration. I am certain Holkenberg would do a score well pleasing to the tone of both the film and book.
